Keats Island Retreat
Keats Island, BC Completed: 2008 1188 SF Our client wanted a simple, adaptable space that would feel good with two or with twelve people in it and with strong connection to the outdoors. We chose a loft type design for its informality and for its sense of spaciousness, even with a building width of only 16 feet. While neighbouring houses are all lined up beside the road, we located this home far back on its lot in a clearing in the forest, protected by a screen of trees. This location allows the ample glazing to open out into the forest while maintaining a sense of privacy and intimate connection with nature. The simple roof form was chosen for easy water collection and rainwater is stored in a cistern below the house. |
