Newby Residence
Proctor, BC Completed: 2009 Casual, understated elegance and serenity were the design objectives for this waterfront home nestled in the trees on the shores of Kootenay Lake. This project was a true creative partnership between our client, Brian Newby, whose thoughtful and nuanced plan formed the starting point, and our firm, which gave the plan form and resolved the details. On the exterior, strong horizontal lines repeated in the roof, fenestration and exterior finishes reduce the visual impact of the home while creating a counterpoint to the irregularity of the rocky, forested site. Inside, a sense of cohesion and peace is engendered by choice of finishes and the careful consideration of interior views and carefully composed pathways along the main building axes. A series of dramatic landscape paintings in specifically-designed alcoves are highlighted throughout the house. |
