Covernton Gibbs Residence
Roberts Creek Completed: 2009 For a house in a forest clearing, getting enough light can be a real challenge. In this 2000 SF 3-bedroom home, a pair of 4'x4' skylights and clerestory window above the vaulted main living space keep the house bright, even on cloudy days. As on many of our homes, the simple shed roof is designed to facilitate the collection of rainwater, which will be stored in cisterns tucked discretely away in the surrounding forest. Our clients had a strong desire to recreate an outdoor fireplace experience from a previous home; a south-facing skylit porch creates a cozy and dry space where this fire can be enjoyed year-round. Within the house, an understated modern aesthetic of concrete floors, simple fir beams, clear fir trim and painted drywall adapts well to our clients' eclectic mix of rugs, artwork and furnishings creating an ambiance of casual creativity. |
